ACL Injury Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation
Rebuild strength, stability, and confidence in your movement.
ACL Injury Rehab Unique to You
An ACL injury is one of the most significant knee injuries you can experience, often affecting not just your mobility but your confidence in how your body moves.
The anterior cruciate ligament plays a key role in stabilising the knee, particularly during rotation, pivoting, and changes in direction. When injured, whether through sport, exercise, or an unexpected movement, recovery requires more than rest. It requires structure, precision, and the right progression.
Here in Hampstead, London, our ACL injury physiotherapy and rehabilitation supports you at every stage. Whether you are managing the injury conservatively, preparing for surgery, or recovering post-surgery, your programme is built around your body and your goals.
We carry out a detailed assessment to understand your strength, stability, movement patterns, and stage of recovery. From there, we design a structured rehabilitation programme that supports you from early-stage recovery through to full return to activity.
For those undergoing surgery, we provide targeted pre-surgery preparation to build strength, improve outcomes, and support a smoother recovery. Post-surgery, we guide you through a progressive rehabilitation programme designed to restore movement, rebuild strength, and safely return you to activity.
The first 12 weeks after ACL surgery are the most important phase of recovery, determining how well your knee regains strength and stability. During this time, the tissue begins to remodel and strengthen, while swelling, stiffness, muscle activation, and movement patterns must be carefully managed to support long-term recovery and reduce the risk of re-injury.
This may include sports physiotherapy, targeted strength training, and Pilates-based rehabilitation to rebuild strength, restore control, and support long-term joint health.
Our focus is not just recovery, but returning you to movement stronger, more stable, and more resilient than before.
Benefits of ACL Injury Rehab
An ACL injury affects far more than just the knee.
It can impact how you walk, limit your ability to exercise, and reduce confidence in everyday movements such as turning, stepping, or climbing stairs. Many people experience instability or a feeling that the knee may give way, which can lead to reduced activity and longer-term weakness.
Targeted ACL rehabilitation focuses on:
• Restoring strength and stability in the knee
• Rebuilding balance and coordination
• Improving movement control and confidence
• Reducing the risk of re-injury
Without structured rehabilitation, the risk of ongoing instability, compensatory movement patterns, and further injury increases.
Early and consistent physiotherapy, including pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation, supports better outcomes and a more complete recovery. With the right programme, you can safely return to daily activity and sport while building a stronger, more resilient knee.
What Your Treatment May Include
Your physiotherapy programme is designed around you, your current activity level, and what you want to achieve.
Sports Physiotherapy
Our sports physiotherapy is a performance focused service. We take the time in a thorough assessment to understand your body, your habits, and your daily life so we can create lasting relief rather than a short term fix.
Knee Pain Physiotherapy
ACL injuries can contribute to other pain in the knee, which is why our knee pain physiotherapy focuses on how your body has adapted to the injury and created new pain.
KINVENT Assessments
We offer assessments using KINVENT technology. Perfect for athletes and those recovering from injuries, these tools identify muscle strength, range of motion, balance, and physical symmetry in real time to eliminate guess work.
Strength Training
Through targeted strength training programmes, you can build the weakened and painful muscles in your knee to be stronger and resistant to further injury.
Personal Training
Through your individual personal training, our practitioner builds a programme that is tailored to your pain and recovery.
Pilates
Pilates focuses on improving core strength, stability, and muscle tone through guided movement and low-impact exercises.
How We Work With You
We begin with a complete understanding of your body.
Your physiotherapist will take time to understand your injury, your lifestyle, and your goals for recovery. This allows us to build a clear picture of where you are now and where you need to get to.
We then carry out a detailed assessment of your movement, strength, and joint function. Importantly, we look beyond the knee to assess how your hips, ankles, and overall movement patterns influence your recovery.
From this, we design a structured rehabilitation plan tailored specifically to you.
We also use KINVENT technology to measure strength, balance, and asymmetry in real time. This removes guesswork and allows us to track your progress with precision, ensuring you are progressing safely at every stage.
Our focus is long-term recovery. We guide you through each phase with clarity, building strength, confidence, and resilience so you can return to movement fully.
